Services

Comprehensive Eye Exams

At CTR Eye Care, we provide comprehensive eye examinations for adults and children. We always schedule ample time so that we can check your eyes inside and out for glaucoma, diabetes, cataracts, dry eyes, macular degeneration, and all other eye diseases. We take great care on the accuracy of our eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions. We utilize the latest in diagnostic equipment and continue to upgrade as advances are made. It’s vital to have a comprehensive eye exam once a year to eliminate long term vision problems and diseases.

What about contact lens exams?

A comprehensive eye exam typically does not include a contact lens fitting. So you may need to schedule a separate contact lens exam. Just let us know when you schedule your appointment, and we’ll make sure you are taken care of.

Eye Emergencies:

If you or one of your loved ones is in an accident that has affected their vision in any way, do not hesitate to contact us immediately.

Here are some common situations that should be considered urgent:

  • Eye infections
  • Foreign objects in the eye, such as small shards of glass or metal
  • Cuts or punctures of the eye or eyelid
  • Chemical exposure causing pain or vision problems
  • Sudden vision loss or change in your vision
  • Scratches caused by foreign objects
  • Sudden onset of floaters or flashes of light
Glaucoma Examinations:

Glaucoma is a medical condition characterized with increased pressure within the eyeball that could slowly lead to permanent loss of sight. One of the horrible things about glaucoma is that in the early stages of glaucoma – when starting treatment can give great results – there are usually no symptoms at all. That’s why it’s so important that you get tested for glaucoma during your annual visit to the eye doctor. A comprehensive glaucoma evaluation consists of a few different tests, including:

  • Tonometry. During this test, the doctor uses a special tool called tonometer to measure how your cornea resists pressure.
  • Gonioscopy. During this test, your ophthalmologist will look at the natural drainage angle of your eye.
  • Ophthalmoscopy. For this test, special drops will be used to enlarge your pupils, which allows your doctor to inspect the optic nerve.
  • Visual field test. This is where we test your peripheral vision.
  • Pachymetry. This is where we measure the thickness of your cornea.
Keratoconus management:

Keratoconus is a medical condition that causes your cornea to gradually weaken over time, which affects your vision and overall comfort. If you have any doubts that you may suffer from this condition, or have already been diagnosed, the best thing to do is visit Dr. Heyborne and discuss treatment options.

There are several options for Keratoconus, some of which include glasses, speciality contact lens fittings or corneal cross-linking. Dr. Heyborne will help you decide which is the best option for you.

Dry eye treatments:

Dry Eye affects people of all ages. Symptoms of dry eye include all or some of the following:

  • Dry sensation
  • Scratchy, gritty feeling
  • Burning or stinging
  • Itching
  • Fluctuating or blurry vision
  • Excess tearing (watery eyes)
  • Mucous discharge
  • Irritation from wind or smoke
  • Redness
  • Tired eyes
  • Light sensitivity
  • Contact lens discomfort
  • Lid infections
  • Eyelids stuck together upon awakening

Additionally, other factors such as your home and working environment, digital device usage, hormones, auto-immune disease, diet, medications, and laser surgery (LASIK/PRK) can exacerbate dry eye symptoms.

There are different forms of dry eye. Over 80% of dry eye is caused by Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).Depending on the type of dry eye you have, there are different treatments available. Some of the treatments that are used to treat dry eye include:

  • Over-the-counter eye drops/lubricants
  • Hot compresses
  • A home humidifier puts moister into the air.
  • Lid hygiene
  • Prescription eye drops (xiidra)
  • Punctal plugs
  • Omega 3 supplements
  • Meibomian gland expression
Cataract Evaluation:
  • Cataracts are a clouding of the natural lens inside the eye. They can be caused by age, trauma to the eye, certain diseases, and even some medications. The only way to treat cataracts is with surgery to remove the old, clouded lens and replace it with a new, artificial lens to restore your vision and significantly improve your quality of life. Cataract surgery is one of the safest procedures performed today. Dr. Heyborne at CTR Eye Care can provide both pre and post-operative surgical care for cataract surgery.
LASIK Evaluation:

Are you sick and tired of having to wear glasses or contact lenses? Would you like to have crystal clear vision naturally, all the time? If you are interested in having this procedure done, you first have to go through a process that evaluates your candidacy, also known as a LASIK evaluation. Dr. Heyborne at CTR Eye Care works with some of the top laser eye surgery specialists in the country, and several are right here in Utah! The LASIK evaluation includes a discussion with Dr. Heyborne, a quick review of your medical history, as well as a non-invasive eye exam. Dr. Heyborne can provide pre and post-operative surgical care for your LASIK procedure. Call today to schedule your LASIK Evaluation.

Eye Allergies

Eye allergies are very common. Itching , burning and watery eyes can be some indication that you suffer from eye allergies.

At CTR Eye Care, we can help identify the causes for your eye allergy and prescribe the best way to manage and treat it.

Diabetic Eye Exams:

Diabetes is one of the most insidious health conditions. While it directly influences the levels of sugar in your blood, it indirectly influences your entire body. It is especially important for diabetics to have regular eye exams due to the risks of diabetic retinopathy, which is a complication that can even lead – if untreated – to complete loss of sight. Diabetic retinopathy is more likely to occur with diabetics with Type 2 diabetes, but it is possible to develop in other forms as well.

Dr. Heyborne at CTR Eye Care performs routine eye exams for many diabetics every year. The eye exam is rather routine, so there is nothing to worry about. A very thorough check of the external and internal parts of the eye are done to determine if the diabetes have affected any part of the eye or vision. Diabetes can cause fluctuations in vision, bleeding in the back of the eye, and even potential blindness if not treated in time. Dr. Heyborne is fully trained to manage diabetes and the effects it has on the eyes.
